America has a problem, and there’s no place to deny that. Homelessness in the country is more visible than ever. If you are unaware of the situation, then clearly, you are living under a rock. You cannot be compassionate and turn a blind eye to the situation. There are people and politicians who would debate the situation and pin the problem against homeless people. But laziness does not force one out of the house and on the streets. The problem is deep-rooted and complex. But, instead of talking about the reasons why homelessness is a problem, let’s discuss how you can help a homeless man and be the shining example of Christianity.
Be Compassionate: If you want to help out a homeless man, you must first become compassionate. Without compassion, no work is god’s work. You are here in this world to do god’s work. You may be a Christian, Hindu, Muslim, or Jew; it does not matter as long as you are compassionate and want to help out without wanting anything in return from them.
- When you feel others’ pain and want to do something for others, God finds ways to help you and shows you a path.
- Compassion is a quality that inspires others to follow your footsteps. Therefore, if you have kids whom you want to lead by example, be kind to the poorest of society.
- While helping out, keep judgment away. Judging their past without knowing it can create difficulties in your decision makings. You do not know what these people have been through. Judging but not so easy to be kind to the underprivileged is easier.
Feed The Poor: Many a time when you host parties, there are a lot of leftovers. Sometimes, you store them in the fridge only to throw them away a week later. Instead of wasting food, you can pack the leftover food items and give them to the homeless people around the corner. They will surely appreciate the homecooked meal. These people are in desperate need of nutritious food. So, you will be doing god’s work when you feed these men.
Volunteer Work: There are many Non-profit organizations that work for the betterment of homeless people. You can donate your time and money to such groups so that they may feed the people with fresh food. These groups prepare family meals for homeless people. These groups rely on volunteers like you and me to complete these projects. So, if you want to lend a helping hand, you are always welcome.
Spread Awareness: when you go out in the real world and see the pathetic conditions people are living in, you get a reality check. You are shocked to see people living on the street day in and day out. You might think, how is this possible in a first-world country like America? But the truth of the matter is, this homelessness is a big problem in the country. So, many of your friends and family might not be aware of the condition. So, you can be that beckon of change and talk about the issue to your circle. You can write about the problem on social media to gain more attention to the burning problem. This will help you raise funds for the homeless youths in your neighborhood.
